[Food Tasting] Tim Ho Wan (添好运)

On Wednesday, 10 April 2013, Michelin star awarded Hong Kong famous dim sum restaurant, TimHoWan (添好运), opens its first outlet in Singapore at The Atrium @ Orchard, Plaza Singapura. The response was overwhelming in which long queues can be seen outside the restaurant, waiting to dine in.

Tim Ho Wan Singapore

Owned by Chef Mak Kwai Pui (formerly worked at renowned hotels such as Le Meridian and Four Seasons in Hong Kong) who is excited about bringing the brand to Singapore that offers authentic Hong Kong-style dim sum at an affordable price (starting from as low as $3.80!). With each of his outlet in Hong Kong selling an average of about 2,000 bamboo baskets of dim sum every day, a long queue of patrons is a common sight.

Smiling with confidence!
Big 4 Heavenly Kings'

A must to order is their Big 4 Heavenly Kings at Tim Ho Wan;

(1) Baked Bun with BBQ Pork ($4.50 for 3) - About the size of one big steam bun, crumbly and fluffy exterior with super tasty barbecue sauce. Whoever tried it said they want to order a second or third set! That night when we were tasting it, one of our friends ordered SEVEN sets of these at one go simply because the baked bun is heavenly delicious.

Personal favourite

(2) Vermicelli Roll with Pig's Liver ($5.50) - I don't eat pig's liver personally but I find this dish quite tasty, the sauce is just right and the pig's liver is actually very tender to chew on! Other different variations of Vermicelli Roll (Chee Cheong Fun) includes BBQ Pork ($5.50), Shrimp ($5.50), Beef ($5.50), Black Pepper ($5.00).

Great taste!

(3) Pan-Fried Carrot Cake ($4.50 for 3) - Generous strips of turnip inside so it really feels like eating the real Carrot Cake, very different from the usual carrot cake we ate.

Something more unique

(4) Steamed Egg Cake ($3.80) - It appears rather huge for the price! It tastes very good as well, soft texture, very similar to a sponge cake.

So HUGE! So CHEAP! So YUMMY!

Prawn Dumpling ($5.50 for 4pcs) - My friend commented that the prawns' meat was of good quality!
Pork Dumpling with Shrimp ($5.00 for 4pcs) - Super tender meat!

Spring Roll with Egg White ($4.20 for 3pcs) -
Another tasty dish with refreshing egg white and radish wrapped with the crispy crunchy skin.

As for their hot and cold desserts;
(1) Yam Puree with Sago (Hot) ($3.50)
(2) Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake (Cold) ($3.50 for 3pcs)

The Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake is beautifully shaped and has a sweet aroma.

Love this sweet jelly-like texture

The restaurant provides a very comfortable, clean feel with two different sections - for dine-in as well as for takeaway, the smart design having a much-organised system. In addition, to cater for days with long queues, Tim Ho Wan's staffs will issue queue number if the waiting time is too long and will notify customers via SMS whenever the table is ready. Talk about time-consuming and hassle-free.

Although varieties on the menu are limited at the moment, it was said that in time to come, more interesting dishes will be added. Furthermore, not many places offer really good quality food at such affordable prices. All in all, I will definitely recommend it!
